Since you're using roosters, the even the breast meat may benefit from the longer cooking time breaking down connective tissues, so you should try it out.

As for shape, a round one is always going to heat more evenly on the stove (shape doesn't matter in the oven), so in this case I'd recommend a round one. I use an oval one because I only have one, and I use it with whole roasts sometimes.
