Thanks Doreen, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it! Also, great idea going heavy on the shiitake for to make it more of a shiitake takikomi gohan👍🏼

This is great as a stand-alone or alongside other dishes. We love mushrooms so I add a lot more shiitake. I soak them overnight so the water is a deep dark brown with lots of flavors.
Another winner from your kitchen to mine. Thanks, Marc!

Hello, 1st timer here!
This is the first recipe I tried from your collections, and the feedback was beyond words.
I might've heard some expletives when describing the umami flavor throughout this perfect recipe. That has never happened to me before. I'm going to YouTube now to check out your videos.
Thank you so much,; I will make/suggest this recipe many times!

My first time 1) cooking rice on the stove 2) eating gobo with the skin on, and this turned out perfect! Glad I doubled the recipe, the family cleaned up the whole pot, including the slightly charred rice at the bottom of the pot. Thanks for the recipe and instructions : )

Hi Marc,
I think this is one of your best recipes ever! The umami is off the charts, and the konbu cha, shiitake, and sake combination is a winner. They all have a subtle flavor that, when combined, is just indescribably delicious. Thanks for continuing to create such fabulous food. It feeds the body soul and mind.
